U.S. Senate to Vote Soon on Defunding Planned Parenthood

 April 11, 2011

The “deal” last Friday to avoid a partial government shutdown had some good news and some bad news for the pro-life movement.

While the CR which passed both the House and the Senate late Friday night did restore the Hyde/Dornan Amendment to ban any federal tax dollars from funding abortions in D.C., it failed to include any language for de-funding Planned Parenthood, the nation’s largest abortion mill.

However, Republicans were successful in forcing Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid to agree to a vote on that PP funding, something he had stubbornly refused to do until last Friday.

That vote could come THIS WEEK and it’s likely to be very close. Urge your senators to vote FOR the defunding of Planned Parenthood, whose services (other than aborting unborn babies) are duplicated and, in fact, often better delivered by other low-income medical centers. In these tough economic times, this is a bad way to spend tax dollars

Moreover, PP doesn’t really need our tax dollars — their recent annual report shows assets of almost $1 billion!
