Who would have thought that the liberal, pro-abortion, Democrat-controlled Senate might actually consider and pass a piece of pro-life legislation?
Yes, it is possible that this scenario could take place. How?
Senators Marco Rubio (R-FL) and Orrin Hatch (R-UT) have revived legislation which actually passed both the House and the Senate in 2006 with some nine Democrat Senators who are still in office today voting with Republicans! The new bill, known as the Child Interstate Abortion Notification Act (CIANA), will help states enforce their laws requiring parental notification prior to an underage child obtaining an abortion.
CIANA allows for punishment, in the form of fines or imprisonment, of physicians who knowingly perform an abortion on a minor who has traveled across state lines and any individual who transported the minor across state lines. This legislation does not apply in the cases of a medical emergency, abuse or neglect. Senators Hatch and Rubio believe it to be a Constitutional manner to prevent abortions being performed on minors who cross state lines without parental notice or consent as required in their home states.
All U.S. Senators should be encouraged to support and co-sponsor this legislation.
